“Oasis in the desert” - Fort Chanwa
Its a 200 year old haveli not exactly fort- with all modern facilities of a star hotel. Only disadvantage is its distance from Jodhpur city- 40 kms- so if you want to sight see Jodhpur it is better to avoid, But if you want to forget the world and stay in a lazy way- this is the best place. Great rajasthani and European food, Lovey folk music, friendly staff, nicely done historic rooms- stay like a maharaja. Lot of old portraits, weapons etc make it a mini museum.
“Feel like king there” - Fort Chanwa
A very good hotel which was converted from an old fort, this place is known for various film shootings. good staff and services, amazing food and amazing atmosphere. This is apprx 25 km from Jodhpur so far from hustle bustle, you can enjoy, calm evening, with a cup of coffee. Can go around to have a look on villagers life. over all a recommended place for who love our roots with luxury.
“Perfect Royal Indian Hospitality” - Fort Chanwa
I traveled last holi to fort chanwa Luni with my wife and 3 kids aged 11, 8 and 4. When I reached there my heart sank. It is a heritage property. I thought here goes my holiday How am I supposed to keep three kids busy and that too for 6 days. There was no tv in room either. But then looks are often deceptive, in my case it was totally deceptive. After 6 day my kids did not want to leave and in those 6 days not once did they miss tv. Now the high points. The place is managed by retired col of indian army Kamal deep singh who is your perfect royal indian host. He helped us with every thing from food for our kids to places to visit to right place to shop so that we dont get ripped off. I have heard about host and royal Indian hospitality but this was in a class by itself. He is very mild mannered, soft spoken and understands your needs even before you. He made sure we never spent a rupee more than necessary. My daughters school result was declared when we were there. When we told him this he had special pastry prepared for all of us. And of course he asked my wife my daughters favorite flavour. My daughter was on top of the moon. We spent holi there. He made sure we had enough colours and lots to eat. Colours were all organic and safe.My kids had a blast. Now to food. The staff at the restaurent was I dont have the words we never felt that we were not being cared for. We had reached in afternoon and kids we tired after a long journey. They had sandwiches ready in 10 minutes of our ordering them. Every evening they would ask our plan and prepare food accordingly. The manager would suggest rajasthani dishes and for 6 days we were pampered by them. How hospitable can you get? Once when we were having dinner my 4 year old had to pee. The manager offered to take him to toilet so that we dont have to get up. I have not heard or read anything like this. Once some time ago in mumbai one of the waiters held my daughter for 30 minutes so that we could finish dinner. BUt taking him to pee? We had a gala time thanks to the staff and special thanks to the colonel . We went on jeep safari with him and he made sure my kids saw and understood every thing. By end of 6 days my son had become Madho Singh from Madhav and my daughters little princess and elder princess. “Good experience” - Fort Chanwa Jodhpur
The fort is very nicely maintained and has quiet, nice, clean open spaces to sit and chat the whole day!. The location is though around 35kms from Jodhpur, but there is a Luni Junction nearby and many trains runs between jodhpur and luni junction . The luni village surrounding the fort is small but worth wandering through. You can find very sweet rasgullas and tasty rabri in the village local market. The village is safe to roam around, but avoid very late night strolls or late night trains reaching luni. The Fort manager is very helpful and has good tips for travel, food etc.
